Polls show that uninformed Americans believe Donald Trump would be better for our nation’s economy. I don’t understand it, but I am well-read, and a student of history.
Trump’s “tax plan” has been labeled a “gift to the wealthy,” and would put our nation in greater debt, while allowing the one-percent to continue avoiding taxes. I have never heard Trump say anything about income inequality or the cost of college education; and he never will. Trump claims that he is a wealthy man, and is not concerned with the average American.
History proves that the majority, the working class, fare better under Democratic leadership. In recent history, the proof is dramatic.
Ronald Reagan’s fiscal policy of “trickle-down economics,” or “supply side economics,” failed badly. When he left office in 1989, George H.W. Bush inherited a deficit of eight trillion dollars, and an unemployment rate of 10 percent. Bush refused to change those policies, and he was defeated by Bill Clinton in 1992.
When Clinton left office, our nation was experiencing a surplus. Under the Clinton Administration, our nation’s economy flourished.
Along came another Republican, George W. Bush. He reinstituted “trickle-down economics” by giving a huge tax break to the super wealthy. He removed regulations for the banking industry. Thousands of Americans experienced a foreclosure on their homes. We became engaged in two costly and unwinnable wars. When he left office, our nation was once again in trillions of dollars of debt, and the unemployment rate continued to rise. America neared an economic debacle nearly as drastic as the 1929 great depression.
In 2009, Barrack Obama inherited the worst situation imaginable. We remained engaged in two wars, and our country was experiencing a frightening recession. Unemployment was high, and tens of thousands of Americans continued to lose their homes. Nearly eight years later, our unemployment rate is five-percent. Most of our military is home. The housing market is booming once again. For the first time since 2007, the middle class is experiencing a 5.2 percent increase in their incomes.
Republican fiscal policies do not work for the majority of Americans. The one-percent are the only group who gain financially under a Republican Administration.
It is now well-known by most of us, unless you are the mainstream media, that Trump has failed at the majority of his business ventures. His business is reported to be $650,000,000 in debt. He is refusing to reveal his tax returns for fear of the truth. He would bankrupt America as he has his own businesses four times.
Ronald Reagan asked the question: “Are you better off than you were four years ago.” American is far better than it was eight years ago after a Republican president destroyed our nation’s economy, and the wealthy experienced bloated profits.
Hillary Clinton has offered detailed solutions for our nation’s ills. If you go to her website, you will learn a great deal about her plans to right the wrongs relating to our nation’s economic division. Donald Trump has not offered a single concrete plan. He has none, because he knows nothing about governing 320 million people.
Democrats are better for the nation and for me.
