Hillary Clinton has been courting disgruntled Republicans during the campaign season. “Anti-Trump” members of the GOP have offered her support. When choosing her cabinet, will she include more than a token member of the Republican Party within her inner circle?
Progressives would be upset. As an independent, I believe it’s a good idea, as long as they are true Republicans, and not members of the radical TEA Party, Freedom Caucus, or whatever they call themselves today. We don’t want anyone who has promised their owners never to work across the aisle, never deliberate, or never compromise.
It is time to return to a bipartisan Congress, and not in name only. America works when two parties argue their points, and eventually find a solution. I believe a cabinet balanced with Democrats and Republicans would be a good beginning. Hillary has many choices; Trump’s choices would likely be Chris Christie, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, Sarah Palin, Ann Coulter, and, God forbid, Steve Bannon, his white supremacist campaign CEO.
I am also concerned about the Supreme Court. No more extremists such as Antonin Scalia, and Clarence Thomas. I would hope that she continues to push for Merrick Garland who is extremely respected by both parties.
Hillary has been speaking to Republicans throughout her campaign. Her time as a United States Senator gave her an opportunity to know members of both parties. Because of her experience, her choices would be well-received, especially if some were Republicans.
Overlooked by the media and most Americans is the need for Democrats to regain control of the Senate. Mitch McConnell, Mr. “Do-Nothing,” must be removed from power. Here in Nevada, there is a vicious and expensive battle for Harry Reid’s soon-to-be-vacated seat. We have a Democrat who is widely respected. She has worked with our Republican Governor, Brian Sandoval, as our Attorney General, as well as with President George W. Bush and President Barrack Obama. Catherine Cortez Masto is endorsed by every law enforcement agency in the state. Her opponent is a two-time Representative who has done nothing for Nevada. Quite the opposite, he has attempted to defeat many of our Governor’s proposals. He is a member of the “Freedom Caucus” who attempted to shut down the government if Planned Parenthood was not defunded.
There are many similar situations across the nation. It’s time to fix our broken government and return to a democracy. Our present oligarchy must not be allowed to move into a plutocracy.
It’s sad that the media has encouraged the circus the 2016 election has become. Issues have been forgotten, as the fourth estate has become the ‘National Enquirer.’ Scandals sell advertising. They have failed the American people, and have supported a man who is the most dangerous candidate in my lifetime.
Please repost. I hope that you agree with me and would like to see more bipartisanship in Washington. Thank you.
