This weekend’s explosion, and the discovery of additional bombs in New York and New Jersey, have offered the presidential candidates and opportunity to discuss their views regarding national security. The responses of both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were somewhat predictable.
Once again, without offering a solution for terrorist threats, this was Trump’s response: “Immigration security is national security,” Trump said at a rally. He failed to point to the fact that the alleged bomber, Ahmad Khan Rahami, was a naturalized citizen, who may have been radicalized inside of our shores. In true Trump fashion, the megalomaniac had to find a way to praise himself instead of remaining on topic: “I should be a newscaster because I called it before the news,” he said.
Clinton’s response was far more thoughtful, and supported the response of law enforcement: “Let’s not get diverted and distracted by kind of campaign rhetoric we hear from the other side,” she said. “This is a serious challenge. We are well equipped to meet it. We can do so in keeping with smart law enforcement, good intelligence and in concert with our values.”
Clinton was asked if the tech companies are assisting the authorities in their efforts to halt online recruitment.
“The recruitment and radicalization that goes on online has to be much more vigorously intercepted and prevented,” she said, renewing her calls for tech companies to step up.
Trump saw things differently. In another “doom and gloom,” fear mongering statement, he told supporters: “We’re in medieval times.” Without offering any faith in our authorities, Trump falsely claimed that he would be superior to Clinton in regards to national security; and he did so in his never-ending attack mode speaking about terrorists.
“They want her so badly to be president you have no idea,” he said. “It will be a field day.”
The sad thing is that the media is letting Trump get away with making these asinine statements. He knows nothing, and therefore offers nothing concrete about anything. He is facing the most qualified candidate in history, and he is unarmed.
Trump’s entire campaign has been built upon the emotional weakness of his supporters. He has no substance, and by flip-flopping on virtually everything he has said over the last 14 months, he has no beliefs.
Once again Clinton has proven her steadiness and the fact that she is ready to lead our nation from day one. Trump has offered nothing to convince any intelligent American that he would be even adequate as our president. We do not need another Bush who required on-the-job training.
Please repost and keep our nation safe; thank you.
