The Sunday talk shows found Republicans supporting Donald Trump’s position regarding his “birther” conspiracy. This has not only renewed the discussion of Trump’s record of racist rhetoric and activities; it reveals that the party supporting him is filled with racists.
In 2009 Trump began demanding that President Obama produce a valid birth certificate. Most Americans saw this as a racist act. Although the President did offer proof that he was born in Hawaii, Trump continued his claim until just a few days ago when other Republicans ‘strong-armed’ him to admit that Mr. Obama is indeed a natural born American citizen.
Trump attempted the same tactic with Ted Cruz during the primary season, claiming that he was not born in this nation, and that his mother was not a U.S. citizen.
Sunday both Republican National Committee Chairman, Reince Priebus, and Trump running mate Mike Pence supported Trump for seven years of attacking the President.
Pence attempted to claim that it was Hillary Clinton who began the suspicion in 2008, which has been proven entirely false. Priebus made the same claim. Priebus said: “after getting this issue resolved, he proclaimed on Friday that he believes that the president was born in America.”
Trump’s supporters are desperate and have proven so by Trump’s own method of flip-flopping on every controversial issue.
After the 2012 election, Priebus announced that the Republican Party would change. He promised that it would appeal to other demographics, including minorities. This has not happened. The truth is that blacks have been ignored by the party of old, white men. Several ‘red states’ have enacted legislation aimed directly at the black community in an effort to restrict their voting rights.
The most frightening fact is that when Trump makes a racist remark, his supporters cheer wildly. Has Trump given racists a voice. By selecting Steve Bannon as his CEO, it would appear to be fact. Bannon is a member of Alt-Right, which I describe as “skinheads with more money.” He is a white supremacist, a homophobe, and a misogynist.
Supporting Trump says; ‘I support his beliefs.’ This is not only deplorable, it’s sad. Prejudice is the most ignorant emotion a human being can choose to display.
The question is; has the United States become more bigoted over the last 20 years or longer? Looking at the number of voters who support Trump, it would appear so.
Let us not “make America great again” in the form of Donald Trump’s un-American ideas. Please repost, and thank you.
