Thanks to divisive efforts by the extreme right wing, there exists two Americas. Make no mistake about it, your position on the issues and the candidates you support places you in one of two entirely different countries.
Some of us who follow our political system have known this fact for a very long time. The rise of Donald Trump as the Republican Party’s standard bearer has given voice to millions of our nation’s people who were previously covert about their beliefs.
For years, voters who chose to cast their ballots for any candidate who had an “R” next to his or her name were obviously not selecting the most qualified candidates, or even someone who represented their wants and needs. They have been voting against progressives whose values are diametrically opposed to their beliefs. With Trump as their leader, they are no longer hiding in the shadows.
I was very sorry to hear Hillary Clinton pull back her comment that ‘half of Trump’s supporters were a bag of deplorables.’ The truth sometimes is hard to accept; but facts are facts.
Millions of Trump supporters are white supremacists, anti-Semitic, Islamophobics, Homophobes, and even misogynists. They claim to support the Constitution, when in fact they pick and choose the amendments they support and deny others. They are backwards thinking men and women who refuse to accept the changes in our nation as we move farther into the 21st century.
Trump’s choice of his top three staff members offers proof of his personal beliefs, and his supporters agree with him. Steve Bannon, Trump’s CEO, is a member of ‘Alt-Right.’ ‘Alt-Right’ is a white supremacist organization. His campaign manager is nothing more than a ‘spin doctor’ whose sole purpose is to “explain” Trump’s vile rhetoric and defend his prejudiced points of view. Kellyanne Conway has no experience in political campaigns and often reveals that fact. David Bossie, deputy campaign manager, has never held office or any other government position. He was hired to create controversy relating to Hillary Clinton. This is one America.
The Democratic Party of Hillary Clinton supports all of the Constitution. They have fought for the rights of all Americans, regardless of race, the color of their skin, their choice of religion, or none, their sex, their sexual orientation, and even their income level. This is the second ‘America.’
This election will decide the future of our nation. It can move forward and embrace freedom and justice for all, or it can move away from the intent of our founding fathers and eventually self-destruct.
Politicians approve of the division within our nation. It is easier for them to campaign with the existence of “red and blue states.” The Electoral College eliminates the need to discuss issues and allows campaigns to resort to personal attacks, name calling, and just plain lies. There is no need for integrity or the use of facts; it is far easier to play upon the weakness of emotions.
After November 8th, one of two Americas will be in control of the destiny of the United States of America. Will it be the nation of old, white men, or will it be a nation which celebrates its diversity, and remains hopeful for the future?
