Like everyone else in America, the best day in the year will be November 9th; no more political television ads. They are mostly lies, and all are intended to misdirect the voting public.
The worst I have ever seen is an ad paid for by the NRA. It combines fear tactics, lies, and a personal attack on Hillary Clinton. The ad features a woman. She hears a sound which makes her believe someone is breaking into her home. The narrator speaks over the action as she reaches for the phone: “A 911 call takes an average of six minutes for someone to arrive.” Then he says: “She has a gun in the safe, but if Hillary Clinton becomes president, she’ll take your guns away and appoint Supreme Court Justices who will remove your second amendment rights.” Really?
This is the most despicable lie I have ever heard from the NRA, and that’s all they do. They are no longer a ‘gun rights’ organization, they are a registered lobby which works for gun manufacturers and gun sellers.
Not a single Democrat has ever suggested that the American people should not be allowed to have guns in their homes if they choose to do so. The NRA is not concerned about the second amendment; it cares about those who pay them to spread their lies.
Here in Nevada, there is a measure to require background checks for all gun purchases. Our state has several gun shows a year, staged at the casinos. No longer would anyone be allowed to purchase their weapons without insuring that they were not under care for a mental condition, on a terrorist watch list, or a convicted felon. This does not pertain to the second amendment. Most of law enforcement approves the measure, with the exception of a few elected officers, such as the Sheriff of Washoe County, who received campaign contributions from the NRA.
When you see ads, which are obviously supported by the NRA, laugh at them; they are farcical. Not one word of truth is offered to the voting public, and they must be disregarded.
Here’s the bottom line; the truth. The history of the second amendment is riddled with subterfuge. There was more time spent on this amendment to the Bill of Rights than any other amendment. The facts are that this was originally intended to protect state militias; preventing any effort by the federal government from invading their states and annexing their land. It was never concerned with the right of individuals to own guns. Most Americans already owned guns, because the majority remained farmers, hunters, and men who traveled through dangerous lands.
I am a believer in the rights of the many; especially when public safety is involved. I believe what most Americans believe, that individuals are guaranteed the right to possess lethal weapons. However, there must be some limitations in consideration for the safety of the general public. Background checks for all gun sales is a must. Military-style weapons of mass destruction, and high-output magazines are not necessary, and have proven to be a danger to the American people. The military agree with me and fail to understand the Republican Party’s opposition to these simple measures.
In the meantime; do not listen to the NRA lies. No one wants to take your toys away.
The truth must be told, but I need help; please repost; thank you.
