What does Trump believe in? Everything Trump promised his supporters during the primaries is now in flux. Trump knows that if he continued to voice his true beliefs, clear-thinking and intelligent Americans would reject him. His most famous claim that he would build a wall between the United States and Mexico, and that Mexico would pay for it, has been debunked. There is no possible way to make our neighbor to the south pay for such a wall, and Congress would never approve billions of dollars for something which is destined to fail.
Trump’s latest flip-flop is in regards to NATO. He called for disbanding the coalition, but now wants to strengthen the alliance.
Pandering to the Polish National Alliance in Chicago, Trump told the crowd: “We’ll work with Poland on strengthening NATO. When I am president, we will strengthen NATO.”
During the primary season I believed that Ted Cruz had mastered the art of pandering, but Trump has proven to be his equal. They are more similar than I once thought. Another lack of honesty they share is their inability to directly answer a question. Why is that? Most of the questions asked which would benefit the American people are ideas they oppose. If the working class would be positively affected, they’re against it.
The issue of NATO is all about money for Trump. He is more concerned with nations he claims are not paying their share to support the alliance than security.
His primary stooge, Rudy Giuliani, attempted to explain Trump’s flip-flop.
“If you elect Donald Trump, you will find a man who understands that Poland, unlike some of the countries he’s pushing a little for a little more money, Poland pays its bills to NATO,” Giuliani said. “So he’ll defend the NATO treaty. It’s a solemn obligation of the United States. Yes, he’s going to push some of the people that aren’t paying their fair share to pay more. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand his solemn obligation.”
Trump has praised Russian President Vladimir Putin, while calling President Obama “weak.” Giuliani attempted to play down the facts.
“He doesn’t know Putin. He’s never met Putin. Will he negotiate with Putin? Yes. Did Reagan negotiate with Gorbachev? Yes,” Giuliani said. “But he’s going to negotiate with him from a position of military strength that dwarfs the Soviet U— I’m sorry, Russia.”
Trump and Giuliani are a match made in remedial English. Neither of them knows a single thing regarding national security or foreign relations. Giuliani is desperate. He is a failed politician who was fading into obscurity until he jumped on Trump’s bandwagon.
Trump’s staff and supporters define the candidate’s lack of character and conviction. Giuliani and Newt Gingrich represent the worst of the Republican Party with lies and misdirection. His three top staff members are a white supremacist, a spin doctor, and a conspiracy theorist. This is the inner circle of a man who would be your president.
