Most of the time I agree with Bill Maher, the host of “Real Time with Bill Maher.” He is usually fair, although just like me, he has moved more to the left of center thanks to the extremists on the right wing. The one thing we completely agree about is Donald Trump. The reasons are many; too many to talk about in one short article.
Maher’s show last Friday focused on Monday evening’s debate. In his usual way, Maher offered numerous jokes about Trump’s inability to perform, but also offered serious questions regarding the “orange man’s” qualifications, and even his right to be a candidate for the presidency. Trump does not believe in the United States or the Constitution.
Maher called him many things; all true; but he missed a few. After claiming that he was a misogynist, had committed treason, and compared his children to ‘Hitler’s youth group,’ he could have added criminal and white supremacist; but he was kinder than I would have been.
Of course he lambasted Trump for his continued attacks on Alicia Machado, the former Miss Universe, including his very early morning rants on twitter. He pointed to the fact that Trump’s foul claim about a sex tape was not in fact Ms. Machado, it was ‘Angel Dark;’ Machado was never in a sex tape.
“Yes, Donald Trump, major party nominee who wants to be the President of the United States, is urging the American public to check out a sex tape that doesn’t exist from a Venezuelan reality show!” exclaimed Maher. “Republicans out there: thank you so much for this. Thank you so much. You must be so f**king proud that your candidate takes a concrete position on something, and it’s: no fat chicks.”
I cannot picture Trump on inauguration day. I honestly believe that I would not be able to stop vomiting. I think about all the presidents in my lifetime, all the great stories of the past, and he is the opposite. All my readers know that I believe George W. Bush was the worst president in American history, but he had a demeanor which was controlled. He never made a racist remark or denigrated women. After 9/11, he spoke supportively of the Muslim American community. If nothing else, he was ‘presidential.
Trump talks a lot about being ‘presidential.’ He is as far away from that adjective than any man or woman could be. He is no more than a schoolyard bully who speaks and acts for himself and no one else. Everything about him proves that he is unfit to become our nation’s leader.
I give ‘two thumbs up’ for Bill Maher’s ‘Trump bashing;’ he deserves it.
