Congress is Proving Itself a Danger to World Peace

Independence

The Congress of the United States is filled with unqualified men and women. Through its own actions, which are filled with a desire for power through repeated elections, and demonstrating a purpose for its existence, it may have become the greatest danger to world peace in our nation’s history.

The fight against terrorism has many components. Since 2001 our government has frequently taken rash actions, which have failed to vanquish our enemies. The repercussions of their insufficiently examined decisions have proven disastrous.

Recently, both parties found agreement quickly on a single issue; possibly too quickly. Both houses passed the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA). This bill allows the survivors of victims of the attacks on 9/11 to sue other nations for what they deem ‘complicity’ in the death of their loved ones; primarily Saudi Arabia.

President Obama vetoed the bill, but for the first time in his presidency Congress overrode that veto.

After their rash decision, Congressional leaders are now questioning the wisdom or their actions. Saudi Arabia is an extremely important ally in the region, and this could damage that relationship. It will also “circumvent diplomatic normalities;” it will need revisions. Both Mitch McConnell, and Paul Ryan admit the errors involved, but blame the President for the bill’s passage; they say he failed to clearly state the reasons he was against the legislation. It’s always Obama’s fault.

What they are proving is why the American people have only a 16 percent favorability rating for the 535 men and women who have failed the American people for eight years.

Our legislators have devolved into a group of extremists. Gone is intelligent deliberation and compromise, and the reason is obvious; unqualified and weak leadership.

Neither Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, or Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, have the ability or the courage to lead Congress. McConnell created the “party of no” when he promised in 2009 that Republicans would do nothing. Ryan replaced the ineffective John Boehner, but has proven equally ineffective.

Sadly, our nation’s governing body is filled with those whose ambitions outweigh their love of country. Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, and a Representative from my own state, Joe Heck, are among others who have frequently offered ideas which are traitorous to our nation and its people.

I cannot say this enough; the voting public must cease two actions which will result in the destruction of America; they must stop casting their ballots based on what they see and hear on television; and they must cease the practice of voting for candidates based on an “R” or a “D” next to their names. Voting for a party is a vote against your personal needs and desires. Country must be the focus; not political parties.

We, alone, are responsible for electing the best man or woman for the job. If you vote without vetting the candidate you support, and he or she becomes a weak link, or even a danger to our nation’s future, it’s your fault; and you are not allowed to complain.

I firmly believe that this election will decide whether or not our nation will continue to exist as the country founded by our forefathers, or become a plutocracy. The middle and working classes have much to lose; they are of little consideration for those living privileged lives in Washington.

It’s only your future which is at stake.

Please repost and force positive change in Washington. Thank you.
