A survey revealed that more than 40 percent of Americans cannot identify the vice-presidential candidates in this election. The late night comics found it humorous; I find it very troubling. Our nation has the most uninformed voters in the world, and that makes us a nation of stupid people.
The proof of my statement is proven by the 2008 election. Many Republican voters supported the vice-presidency of Sarah Palin. If John McCain had died in office, we would have been forced to have a president who knew nothing about literally anything. She was a fear monger, and a woman who promoted hatred and division, and had obviously failed her IQ test.
Today, if the polls have any meaning, the American people choose to know nothing about the real Donald Trump, or, according to Trump’s ads, Hillary Clinton would be leading by 50 points.
For far too many Americans view our presidential election is an excuse for ridicule. It’s true that this particular election has revealed the worst of America, but the implications regarding the victor are more serious than at any other election in my 70 years. The future of our nation; the very existence of the dreams of our founding fathers hangs in the balance.
Become informed. Become aware. The standard bearer of the Republican Party is opposed to every principle of our founding fathers, and hides behind a slogan; “make America great again.” He has no concept of what that means. The ideals of our founding fathers would have created a great country, but the reality is that we have never been great. The prejudices of the Trump campaign have existed from the beginnings of our nation, and are growing today.
For more than 30 years, the welfare of the working class has been ignored, while the one-percent have flourished. Although the William Jefferson Clinton Administration left our nation with an economical surplus, since 1980, our nation’s majority have struggled to maintain their quality of life. Efforts by politicians have forced the middle class, low-income Americans, and those in poverty to face daily struggles to support their families and our nation. Our government has favored the wealthy, and denied the needs of the majority.
This November the people of the United States can decide their own future. They can elect a member of the wealthy class who is a megalomaniac, and has no interest in the future of most Americans, or our first woman president whose proposals will positively affect all of our nation’s people.
If the electorate continues its pattern of voting for a party, or voting based on television ads, or the failure of the media to provide the truth, our nation’s destiny is doomed. It’s time for all Americans, millennials and baby boomers alike, to take the responsibility for our nation’s future.
This is not just another election. The offering from the Republican Party represents everything which is bad for our country and for the people of the world. If we choose to ignore this fact, not only will the safety of our own nation’s people be in the balance, the entire world will be in turmoil.
Trump knows nothing; will do nothing; and has only a single interest; his personal aggrandizement. Thanks to the media he has an opportunity to defame the presidency and defile the White House.
Grow up America.
