This extraordinarily long and embarrassing campaign season begin in March of 2015 when Ted Cruz announced his candidacy for the presidency. He made the announcement at Liberty University under strange conditions. Some of the students reportedly wore t-shirts supporting Rand Paul, and some were paid to attend.
Jerry Falwell Jr. is the Christian university’s president, and is a Donald Trump Supporter. Some of the students are unhappy about his choice, and are protesting.
“We are Liberty students who are disappointed with President Falwell’s endorsement and are tired of being associated with one of the worst presidential candidates in American history,” the statement said. “Donald Trump does not represent our values and we want nothing to do with him. … He has made his name by maligning others and bragging about his sins. Not only is Donald Trump a bad candidate for president, he is actively promoting the very things that we as Christians ought to oppose.”
Let’s be very honest here. There are only two sides to this issue about Trump’s sexual harassment and sexual assault; there are no ‘shades of gray.’ If you denounce Trump and reject his ambition to live in the White House, you support women’s rights, deny misogyny, and support only those with strong moral character. If you continue to support Trump, you consider women second-class citizens, and view them as sexual objects. If you are a woman who continues to support Trump, you are subservient to men. These same women would tell a victim of domestic violence that she “probably deserved it.”
America has its share of problems. Some of them must be addressed by our next president and the congress. Issues such as sexual harassment, growing sexual abuse on our nation’s college campuses, and domestic violence must be addressed at lower levels. They can no longer be ignored. Women have suffered at the hands of their male counterparts for far too long.
Donald Trump is nothing more than a “dirty old man.” He has lived a life of privilege and luxury, and he believes that one of his privileges is freedom to treat women in any manner he chooses. His actions and words cannot be condoned by any man or woman who believes in morality.
What is most unacceptable is the head of a so-called “Christian” university accepting Trump’s actions. He obviously rejects the teachings of Jesus Christ. If He were on the earth today, He would be renouncing Trump, and tell him to prepare for judgment by His Father.
The situation at Liberty University also demonstrates a difference in the thought processes of millennials and baby boomers. Millennials are far more likely to treat women as equals, and less likely to accept sexual harassment. They are also far less likely to accept racism, and homophobia as the norm. They are now the largest demographic in America, and will soon control both business and government in our nation.
Donald Trump is too old to become our nation’s president. No, I’m not exhibiting prejudice against the elderly; I am 70-years-old myself. I am speaking about his outdated attitudes towards women and minorities. He remains in the 1950’s mentally, and that’s unacceptable. Our country must move forward into the 21st century and openly accept the changes within our nation.
I’m with Hillary, and if you are too, please re-post. Thank you.
