For more than 20 years there has been a movement by a small group of extremists to move the Republican Party farther to the right. Today they have succeeded beyond their wildest beliefs and destroyed our government and eliminated democracy. Where did it originate, and why have the leaders of the GOP allowed this to happen?
Trumpenstein is primarily a protest movement. Disgusted with continued failure by Republican legislators, voters supported a complete outsider who is totally unqualified and a morally corrupt individual. GOP leaders allowed it to happen.
The very beginning of this far right movement originated in 1988 when Rush Limbaugh’s vile radio broadcast became syndicated. He began the tactics of fear and hatred as a means to control the minds of uninformed voters. His unjustified criticism of all Democrats began a division in our nation. His basic philosophy, that no Republican could be wrong about anything, and Democrats were never right, poisoned the minds of millions of weak-mined Americans.
The situation worsened 20 years ago with the inception of FOX Noise. Former FOX President, Roger Ailes, staffed the fake-news network with pretend journalists and attractive blonde women who had but a single purpose; increase ratings to profit the network. The truth was not considered a factor, and it soon became a propaganda machine for the Republican Party. It’s lies about progressives added to the division of our nation. And here we are today, involved in the ugliest election in our nation’s history.
Democracy only works when honest and open deliberation occurs; resulting in compromise. The Republican Party has moved so far to the right that it refuses to talk to Democrats. The advent of the TEA Party in 2010 was the final piece of the puzzle which created a party that can now be called ‘reactionary.’ Add to the right wing media, and extremist politicians, lobbies such as the NRA. Blatant lies intended to undermine the credibility of Democratic politicians have further divided what has become an angry nation.
The question is, ‘can it be fixed?’ I’m not sure. I give this a lot of thought, and I cannot see a solution to repair the many problems created by obstructionist forces occurring in the near future. Until useless politicians such a Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and others are forced to retire, or leave this earth, I do not see improvement on the right. However, in 20 years, millennials and women will control both our nation’s business and the government. It is my generation, we baby boomers who were the country’s largest demographic for decades, which allowed our government to become dysfunctional. We voted in large numbers, but not wisely. We allowed ambitious individuals such as Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, and Jason Chaffetz to control the direction our country took. As long as they are in office, hope is slim.
This election offers the American people two candidates. Donald Trump is beyond extreme. Many of his statements and proposals are opposed to the Constitution and the principles of our founding fathers. He would be the first elected president who was not a true American.
The majority of Hillary Clinton’s policies reveal that she is a “1980’s Republican.” She, too, has moved more to the right, and this angers many liberal Democrats. She also has the difficulty of fighting rumor and innuendo presented by Republican politicians and the media. The truth is that Hillary is just the president we need today. She will be a truly bipartisan leader. In addition, Limbaugh is becoming too radical and is not experiencing a growing number of listeners.
FOX Noise, like the Republican Party appears to be imploding. It is also having difficulty attracting new viewers.
