Ted Cruz Suggests More Changes Adding to our Failing Government

We know many things about Texas Senator Ted Cruz, and none of it is positive. He is known as “the most hated Senator in Washington” by his own party. In his very first year in office, he led an effort to shut down our nation’s government. As the leader of the TEA Party, he encouraged fellow Republicans to ‘do nothing.’ He joined others refusing to deliberate or compromise with Democrats.

Cruz claims to be a devout Christian; but he is not a patriot. He would violate the exact wording of the first amendment to our Constitution and institute Christianity as our national religion. But that’s not the end of his beliefs which would alter the America of our forefathers.

Cruz is suggesting that if Hillary Clinton wins next Tuesday, no new justices should be confirmed by the Senate for the Supreme Court. He claims that there is precedence to continue with eight justices instead of nine.

Of course he is mistaken. Our founding fathers created the Court as a non-partisan branch of our federal government. Our forefathers were convinced that there should never be a tie. During the current Supreme Court session there have been several cases which reverted to a lower court decision because the vote was four in favor, and four in dissent. Cruz is correct about only one thing. In 1789 the Court originally had only six justices. However, in 1869 the decision was made to increase the number to nine; thus eliminating the possibility of a tie. This has served the nation well.

Cruz’ intention is to eliminate the probability of Hillary Clinton nominating justices who are not right wing extremists such as the late Antonin Scalia. His decisions were harmful to the working class; greatly favoring the rich and powerful.

Senate Majority “Leader,” Mitch McConnell made a serious mistake by not holding confirmation hearing for President Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland. Judge Garland is currently the Chief Justice of the Appellate Court. He is not only the most qualified choice to fill the vacant seat, he is admired and respected by both Democrats and Republicans. Judge Garland is considered a moderate, and would have been an excellent choice.

Cruz prefers a biased Court; one favoring his extremist ultra-right wing views. His choice would be a justice who protects Christians, and denounces other religions, while supporting the wishes of the one-percent and ignoring the working class. He would support a justice who voted to reverse the decision regarding same-sex marriage. Cruz would also support a justice who upheld voting laws in red states which are intended to reduce the number of minorities going to the polls.

I feared a Cruz nomination far more than a Trump candidacy. Cruz is a traitor to the American people, and his efforts to make changes in our government to accomplish personal goals is unforgivable.

Don’t forget to vote; it’s your chance to decide what happens to you and your family for the next four years. Please re-post, and thank you.
