Most of you do not know the name “David Frum.” If you watch Bill Maher’s show on HBO, you have probably listened to his views, and are aware that he is a devout conservative. He is also a patriot. I always appreciate listening to someone who has views different from my own when they offer their rationale in a manner which displays prior intellectual analysis.
For 16 months I have offered reasons why Hillary Clinton must receive the votes of true Americans. I have also labeled many Republicans as hypocrites. Their explanations for denouncing Trump were genuine; demonstrating their beliefs that he was unfit to lead our nation. When they ‘flip-flopped’ and decided to support the party’s standard bearer, they offered proof that political gain was more important than the future of our nation, and service to the American people.
Mr. Frum states that he is opposed to Hillary’s position on the issues, but will accept that fact and vote for her rather than cast his ballot for a man who is morally corrupt, insults our founding father’s principles, and rejects the Constitution. He says that he is not voting for the lesser of two evils, he is supporting the only candidate who is a patriot and fully qualified.
He reveals the fact that he has considered the arguments of other conservatives who offer an excuse and will vote for Trump. He says that allegations of wrong-doing on Hillary’s part are unproven, and believes that she does have the strength of character to lead our nation.
In addition, I believe that she is a very strong woman who will move our nation forward. She has been forced to battle not only her opponents, but the media which continues to hold her to a higher standard than Trump. For 16 long months they have given him a virtual free pass.
I commend Mr. Frum for doing the right thing and supporting the majority of our nation’s people. He is rightfully concerned about what will happen to his party after the election, as am I. Its current condition is irreparable. Far too many GOP politicians lack courage and principle. The extremists in the TEA Party have damaged the party with attempts to move it too far to the right. Failed leadership including Mitch McConnell, Reince Priebus, Paul Ryan, and the former Speaker, John Boehner, are the architects who created Trumpenstein. Their failure to remove control of the GOP from special interests forever damaged the Republican brand.
No one knows exactly what will happen after the election. There will certainly be unwarranted ‘finger pointing.’ Every Republican politician must accept part of the blame for the implosion of the GOP. Their priorities are all wrong. Our nation’s people must be the focus, not reelection.
Today’s Republicans offer little resemblance to Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Reagan, or George H.W. Bush. These men served their nation and worked across the aisle to accomplish what was necessary to improve the lives of all Americans, not just a few.
