Let’s make this election about the important things; the issues. To talk about the issues, we must address the ugliness of Washington which are lobbyists. Lobbyists do not care about our nation or our people, they care about profit. The working class does not have a lobby, and from what I know about the Constitution, they are violating the rights of the majority.
That said, here are some of the larger lobbies, and who they support. I’ll say this ahead of time; very few lobbies support Democratic candidates.
The worst of the worst is the NRA. Millions of Americans are under the delusion that this organization is all about ‘gun rights;’ nothing could be further from the truth.
Until the mid-1970’s the NRA was what many believe it is today; they would be wrong. Not only did they write many of the gun laws we have today, they offered suggestions for gun safety for hunters and those who decided to keep guns in the home.
Today’s NRA has a singular concern; increased profits for gun manufacturers, and gun sellers. They reject any and all measures to make our nation safer. By the way, if you pay dues to the NRA, you are adding increased profits for a lobby.
Today they have the nerve to tell the biggest lie of all; they wrote an op-ed titled: “Terrorists Want You To Elect” Hillary Clinton
The large petroleum companies are the largest polluters of our environment. If left unchecked, they would destroy every pristine mile of our nation’s natural beauty for profit. Fracking wells are popping up in places where drinking water supplies are threatened. The process has caused increased seismic activity where none previously existed. With the increase of fracking, Oklahoma has experienced thousands of earthquakes.
The oil companies have operated as ‘profit before people’ for decades, and continue to receive subsidies. Through the use of lobbyists, they own the Republican Party.
Finally there is the Christian religious right. Not a single Republican ignores its influence. Although such action is forbidden by the first amendment, they continue to allow the interference of a single religion to set policy and introduce legislation detrimental to the freedoms of others.
Our nation was founded by men who did not believe in organized religion, and protected the people of their new nation by forbidding any single religion to control the United States of America. It was so important to them, that they included the matter in the first amendment.
If Republicans had not allowed this lobby to control policy, personal matters such as abortion and same-sex marriage would not have become political issues.
Politicians talk a great deal about freedom and democracy, but obviously these are nothing more than words to them. The Republican Party is the party of big business. Every issue they denounce is an issue which would positively affect the working class, women, and minorities. If a piece of legislation does not increase profits for the wealthy, they reject it with lies to uninformed voters.
Very few Americans actually know the truth about Washington. Our government is no longer a group of elected officials who serve the American people. They are men and women who sought elected office for their own personal ambitions of power and profit. The GOP is literally owned by the one-percent, and receive instruction regarding votes through lobbyists.
