In 2000 Florida Decided the Presidency: Is History Going to be Repeated?

2016 Clinton

As of this morning, two days before the election, Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump in the state of Florida by a single point in the polls. By most estimates, if Hillary wins the Sunshine State, she will surpass the number of Electoral votes required to win the presidency. With 270 needed, polls vary from numbers in the 224 range to more than 300 for Hillary today.

If reports are correct, Hispanics in Florida are going to the polls in large numbers; this is bad for Trump.

Most of you all remember that in 2000, there was no president elect on election day. Unclear ballots in Florida forced a recount. Eventually the Supreme Court of the United States stopped the recount and awarded the presidency to George W. Bush. Although Al Gore won the popular vote, he was denied a victory from the right-wing biased Court.

Yesterday Hillary was holding a rally in Florida. It began to rain, but the crowd refused to leave.

You’re a hardy bunch, standing out in the rain!” a hoarse Clinton shouted, as she tried to be heard above the drumming rain at an outdoor rally.Rally-goers huddled under umbrellas and plastic tarps, or stood dripping as Clinton spoke.“You must get out! Let’s vote for the future. Let’s vote for what we want for our country!” Hillary ceased her speech at seven minutes as she urged the crowd to move into dryer areas.

I remain nervous, as many who truly care about the future of our nation share the same emotion. I know the dangers presented by a Trump Presidency, including a permanent division among our nation’s people. I could never accept a “President Trump.” I reject white supremacy, bigotry, homophobia, Islamophobia, and misogyny. No man who lacks respect for a woman deserves loyalty and acceptance from the American people.

As of today, it appears that the Clinton campaign is gaining momentum. Trump’s ‘ground game’ appears weak, and although his rallies continue to be attended by large numbers, they are suspected to be long time supporters; he is not adding to his base.

Hillary continues to offer her supporters two things; proof that Trump is unfit to be the president, and discussing the issues which are most important to the American people.

Although James Comey and Vladimir Putin continue their efforts to derail Hillary’s campaign, she has proven herself to be a far superior candidate.

In two days, we elect our nation’s 45th president. For the future of our nation’s people, I hope and pray that person is our first woman president.

Please pass this on by re-posting and join in the rejection of a self-serving and morally corrupt man; thank you.
