When Trump emerged from his 90 minute meeting with President Obama, the expression on his face told it all. He said that he had expected the event to last 15 or 20 minutes. His eyes told us everything; he is not prepared to be the president. Trump has never worked a full day in his life. As president, his ‘job’ will require approximately 14 hours each day to complete the required tasks.
Trump knows nothing about the workings of government. He will soon discover that campaign promises are nothing more than empty rhetoric. He will not build a wall; he will not deport Hispanics who are here illegally; he may repeal ‘Obamacare,’ but he will not replace it because House Republicans will never allow the American people to healthcare. They have the best taxpayer dollars can buy, but you and I don’t deserve it.
The one thing Trump can do as president is to restrict immigration. He is already under fire for selecting Steve Bannon as his ‘chief adviser.’ Bannon is a member of Alt-Right, a white supremacist organization. He will encourage Trump to continue his bigotry towards all Muslims and minorities.
It was obvious from the beginning that Trump’s candidacy was an effort to receive attention; he was not serious about becoming our president. It was recently revealed that Trump believed that his “mock campaign” would end by October of 2015.
The most difficult reality Trump will face involves his extremely weak temperament. He will be forced to accept the opinions of others, something Trump has never done in his entire adult life. He will no longer receive the adulation of supporters, he will be denounced wherever he goes, and the hate he promoted towards others will now be directed at him. More than one-half of the nation will never accept a Donald Trump presidency.
Now that Trump is facing the reality of becoming the leader of the free world, he is quite likely “peeing his own pants.” It is impossible to move from doing nothing at all to accepting the most difficult job in the entire world.
Trump has chosen his support group unwisely. His cabinet will be filled with the dregs of politicians who have failed their country and our people.
Reince Priebus is one of the primary reasons why the Republican Party is damaged beyond repair. His devotion to the Koch brothers, and lack of ability to lead, caused divisions within the GOP which will never be mended. Now he will be Trump’s chief of staff, the second most powerful position in our nation.
Trump stands alone. His need to have his ego stroked constantly will no longer be possible. He cannot represent all Americans; he is out of touch with the vast majority.
Because Trump lacks the intellect and experience to be our president, he will likely incur health problems; stress will cause that; and there is no avoiding stress as the most powerful man in the world.
I don’t feel sorry for him; and I cannot wish him ‘best of luck.’ Sometimes you get what you want; or at least what you thought you wanted. Which reminds me of the old adage: “Be careful what you ask for!”
