Early in 2016 President Barrack Obama nominated Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court seat vacated by the death of Antonin Scalia. Scalia was the most extreme member of the right wing on the Court; Garland was supremely qualified, and considered a moderate. For the remainder of the year, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to hold hearings regarding Garland’s nomination. Democrats will attempt to refuse another extremist on the Court, and will use McConnell’s own tactics to keep the seat vacant. Of course hypocrite and traitor Mitch McConnell is crying foul.
“Sen. Schumer said in the second Bush Administration he would not confirm the Supreme Court nominee in the last 18 months of President George Bush 43’s tenure. Apparently there is yet a new standard now, which is, to not confirm Supreme Court nominee at all,” McConnell said.
Don’t be fooled by a man who has always placed his party in priority over the American people; this is nothing more than political posturing. As extremism continues to grow from the right side of the aisle, our nation continues to suffer, and our government will remain dysfunctional. It is men like McConnell and Speaker Paul Ryan who seek control of Washington in support of special interests. Not a single Republican represents the majority of the American people.
As I have said repeatedly, McConnell will be remembered as the worst senator in American history, closely followed by Ted Cruz. They have ignored the needs and desires of the working class throughout their careers.
Congress must be forced to accept term limits. The American people deserve to have representation in Washington who will work for them, not against them.
Senator Chuck Schumer of New York is now the Senate Minority Leader. He explained the position of Democrats regarding the Supreme Court on the Rachel Maddow Show.
“If they don’t appoint someone who’s really good, we’re gonna oppose him tooth and nail,” Schumer told “They won’t have 60 votes to put in an out-of-the-mainstream nominee and then they’ll have to make a choice: change the rules.”
Our Constitution suffered great damage from Scalia. He never failed to support the extremists on the right, and refused to support the needs of the majority. We cannot afford another prejudiced man on the Court.
