Sometimes the truth hurts. If you are Donald Trump, the truth always harms his fragile ego. He is more concerned with soothing his weak temperament than learning how to govern our nation. His habit of tweeting his feelings about everything was ignorant, and now is simply annoying.
Last night at the Golden Globe Awards, Meryl Streep received the Cecil B. DeMille Award; a lifetime achievement honor. Ms. Streep, undoubtedly the greatest actress of our time, decided not to talk about her personal success. Instead she lambasted the president-elect; correctly labeling him a ‘bully.’
“There was one performance this year that stunned me,” she said. “It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good. There was nothing good about it. But it was effective, and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth.
“It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.”
Ms. Streep was referring to Trump’s sad and embarrassing effort to mock a reporter who has arthrogryposis.
“And this instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing,” the actress said.
Early Monday morning, obviously having nothing more important to do, Trump tweeted a response to Ms. Streep’s mild attack.
“Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a…..”
But Trump lost the social media war. Support of Ms. Streep flooded twitter; here are a few examples.
Meryl Streep: 3 Oscars, 8 Golden Globes, 2 SAGs, 2 BAFTAs, 2 Emmys, one Presidential Medal of Freedom
Donald Trump: one Golden Raspberry
Trump is just mad Meryl has 2 Emmys & he couldn’t even get one.
When Meryl Streep’s Golden Globes sounds more presidential then Donald Trump
There were many more, and you can read them on your twitter account.
What will Trump do when he is actually the president? He will have to spend 30 hours each day tweeting in response to his critics. (He doesn’t know that there are only 24 hours in a day.)
A note to Trump supporters; you chose to elect the most ignorant and most immoral man in America; it’s your fault that America will be the laughing stock of the rest of the world. We now have a president who has less intellect than George W. Bush; I never thought I would live to see this situation.
