If you believe that racism, and bigotry in general are a lessening problem in America, you must be a FOX Noise supporter. In general, the right wing would like to have white Americans believe that our nation is not as divided as it was 50 years ago. They are lying to you, and soon you will understand the truth.
There are thousands of reason why Donald Trump is the worst disaster ever to happen to our nation, but I maintain that there is a singular positive arising from his illegitimate election.
Because of his support of white supremacy; his hatred for Hispanics and Muslims; and his total disregard for the human rights of all black Americans, the LGBT community, and women, he has united the majority of our people. Throughout history, when the American people have a common enemy, our nation becomes one country, filled with patriotism and a sense of purpose.
Thanks to the evil which is Donald Trump, white Americans will now understand the fight which continues within the black community. Contrary to FOX and GOP politicians, blacks are treated differently than whites by law enforcement and the justice system. Blacks are discriminated against at all levels of employment, and in social organizations. Young black men and women are undeservedly feared and distrusted, simply for the color of their skin. When Trump began his racist rants in August of 2016, fear within the black community and other minorities such as Hispanics and Muslims began to rise; and for good reason. More than 1,000 hate crimes have occurred across our nation since the election. Groups such as the KKK, Alt-Right, and the Aryan Brotherhood feel empowered. Even a prejudice most of us believed was no longer prevalent, antisemitism, raised its despicable head once again. This is a direct result of Trump’s vile rhetoric at his campaign rallies. He constantly encouraged hatred and violence.
On Martin Luther King Day, modern day civil rights leaders expressed concerns regarding a Trump administration in Maine.
“With the campaign rhetoric and statements by the incoming administration being so diametrically different from the current administration, there’s a sense of being under attack,” said the Rev. Kenneth Lewis, pastor of Green Memorial AME Zion Church in Portland.
“Are there going to be rollbacks on civil liberties?” Lewis continued. “Policy by tweet is pretty tough to discern. That kind of uncertainty can create tremendous angst.”
American Muslims offered similar concerns.
Ibrahim Hooper, a representative from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), told Al Jazeera; “We witnessed a spark in the number of hate crimes against Muslims in late 2015, and this number increased further during Donald Trump’s election campaign”.
“I think these statistics are just a fraction of what we see on the ground right now, Donald Trump just named a white supremacist as chief strategist. We have no reason to believe things are going to get better for the American Muslim community or other minorities any time soon.”
If you’re white, and never experienced the angst and even fear of minorities in America, you have probably failed to understand the reasons behind those deep concerns. You will soon learn as Trump, his circle of sinners, and extremists in the Republican Party began to dismantle the Constitution, and the freedom and rights guaranteed by our founding fathers become a memory.
