Today, January 21st, 2017, is the dawning of a new America; but it’s not very bright. Our nation has been soiled by the inauguration of the most immoral man in our nation.
However, there is a light rising in our nation’s Capitol. Hundreds of thousands of women are joined in protest against the illegitimate presidency of Donald Trump. Women from across the United States are arriving by plane, train, cars, and buses. An estimated 1,800 buses have arrived in Washington alone.
All across America women and some men are participating marches in support of the event in Washington. In my city of Reno, Nevada, the downtown area in expecting 2,500 women to join in the march. Far larger crowds are expected today in Las Vegas.
Take the case of Joann Barr; age 54. She lives in the small town of Cogan Station, Pennsylvania. She boarded a bus in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, at 3:30 a.m. for the trip to Washington.
Exit polls revealed that 71 percent of the residents of Williamsport voted for Trump, and I will assume that nearly 100 percent of the people in Cogan Station supported the orange man. Rural America, who learned about the candidates primarily from our failed media, voted overwhelmingly for Trump.
Ms. Barr is the exception. She is a single mother of three children. Divorced from a drug-addicted husband in 2006, who died from a heart attack in 2009. She eventually came to the realization that she was not happy, that she had never reached her own potential. When her son became addicted to heroin, she knew for the first time that small town America was not immune to the ills of larger cities.
When Trump was proven to be a sexist, she changed her voter registration and became a supporter of Hillary Clinton. She was called a ‘radical feminist’ by her boyfriend, and often shunned by customers in the hardware store where she was employed.
The day after the election, she told her daughter Ashley: “Looks like we’ll be having to say President Trump,” Joanne said.
“I’m not going to trust anyone, anymore,” Ashley said.
“Too many mean, vile people,” Joanne said. “One thing this election did for me is to empower me. The people at work will see a different person tomorrow.”
“You yell or cry at work yet?” Ashley asked the following day.
“I don’t know how I’m going to get thru the day,” Joanne replied. “I want a new relationship, new house, new job, everything.”
Today, this unassuming woman from small town America is in Washington with her daughter, Ashley.
Americans who were informed before the election are now being joined by those who have awakened to the reality of what a Trump presidency actually means. What most Americans believed our nation was before yesterday, is no longer a reality. The party of special interests has a monopoly in government, and their standard bearer is the most vile man in the nation who does not believe in the real America.
Only the people can take back the America of our founding fathers. The media and Republican politicians will pretend that everything is normal; everything will be all right. This is far from the truth.
Republicans have made fools of the American people through lies and deception for years. With a loud-mouthed and immoral man as their leader, they will no longer be able to hide the truth.
Let’s all join the women in Washington today, spiritually if not physically. They are marching for all of us.
