Our founding fathers considered the first amendment the most important section of the Constitution. I believe it has become even more important today, as our government has become more corrupt. Let’s take a look at the exact words.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Trump and his Republican cronies are planning to void every right guaranteed in the amendment. They are attempting to force a religion based on fantasy, and stories in ancient religions which began hundreds and even thousands of years ago upon the American people.
Our founding fathers did not believe in organized religion, but they also believed that it is the right of all Americans to practice any religion they may choose. Religion and government are completely incompatible.
Donald Trump’s greatest fear is freedom of speech and freedom of the press. He simply can’t handle the truth. This became evident during his rallies when anyone who disagreed with him was physically removed from the venue. Although Trump received five-times more media coverage than all other candidates, he belittled them constantly. He was unable to accept minor criticism and refused to answer the easy questions they offered him. He was held to such a low standard that it became embarrassing, and yet his weak temperament would not allow him to accept their “soft-balled” queries.
Since Trump’s illegitimate election, protests have continued across the nation. Across the nation efforts are underway to prevent the American people from exercising their first amendment rights.
Republican leaders in North Dakota, Indiana, and Iowa have introduced legislation which would prevent most protests; other GOP governors are planning similar Unconstitutional action. Fear of a second revolution is rampant among the party of fascism.
Republicans hate truth and facts. For years they have been attempting to make us believe that their goals are our goals. They ignore the polls which reveal the truth about the needs and desires of the American people in support of special interests. The majority of the American people support same-sex marriage, fair immigration reform, and sensible gun laws, but GOP politicians ignore us. Now they seek the ability to prevent peaceful protest.
Republicans are attempting to justify this form of deplorable legislation.
“People are just kind of sick and tired of this garbage,” Nick Zerwas, a Republican state representative in Minnesota, said by telephone. “If you block a freeway, you ought to go to jail and when you get out, you ought to get the bill.”
Zerwas is denying the fact that the people are our nation; government must serve us, not we, them.
“What’s happening is a truly alarming spread of state legislation that, if passed, will have the intent or impact of criminalizing peaceful protests,” said Lee Rowland, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union rights group.
The bills were “unconstitutional right out of the gate,” Rowland said, adding that protests should be seen as a “success of representative democracy,” not a problem to be solved.
Republicans have been attempting to nullify sections of the Constitution for more than 20 years. Freedom threatens their goals; goals which are in opposition to the needs of the majority of Americans.
So, here’s what we do; we protest more, and then we become active. Finally we vote them out of office.
Republicans are not Americans.
