For roughly a year, Trumpist America has flailed wildly under the assumption that “bad dudes” are trying to harm the country in a variety of ways, seeping in from virtually every corner of the globe. The solutions, for Trump and his supporters, range from building “a great wall” on Mexico’s tab to “extreme vetting” and even employing torture, some combination of which, we imagine, will make America great. When confronted by research suggesting torture doesn’t work, Trump announced that “if it doesn’t work, they deserve it anyway, for what they’re doing.” President Trump even instituted what – given its blanket nature, exemptions for non-Muslims, early disregard for citizenship and residency status, and the president’s own description of his intent – can only be fairly described as a Muslim ban.
