All politicians lie, but most have the ability to disguise their lies by evading the tough questions, and answering in a manner which makes them appear more ‘acceptable.’ I have always referred to this ability as ‘politispeak.’ As Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, was undergoing his confirmation hearings, Democrats attempted to ask him direct questions regarding the issues he will surely address if he is confirmed. He used politispeak to avoid answering.
This concerns me because Gorsuch claimed that a Supreme Court Justice must not be political in his or her decisions; and yet he used a politician’s number one tactic.
At times Gorsuch raised his voice. He said the right things, but he is replacing Antonin Scalia, the most extreme right wing politician ever to sit on the Court.
“I have offered no promises on how I’d rule in any case to anyone, and I don’t think it’s appropriate for a judge to do so,” he said, pledging to keep “an open mind.”
Democrats have a right to be skeptical. Fifteen months ago President Obama nominated an extremely qualified and moderate judge to replace Scalia, Merrick Garland. Mitch McConnell, the American people’s greatest traitor, refused to hold hearings. It’s party only for the ‘old turtle.’ He does not ‘give a damn’ about the American people, good government, or justice.
Gorsuch will surely be confirmed, but only because Republicans hold the majority in the House and Senate. We can change that in November of 2018; get the vote out.
Vote Democratic and remove all power from the executive branch.
