When Donald Trump asked former FBI Director James Comey to halt the investigation into Michael Flynn’s illegal connections with Russian agents, Comey declined. We have now learned that the issue was not Comey’s alone. Trump attempted to obstruct justice by coercing other Washington insiders to hide Flynn’s crimes and subsequently his own.

Trump also attempted to strong arm his selection for director of national intelligence, former Republican Sen. Dan Coats, who refused to comply with a request by the president to push back against the FBI investigation into possible coordination between his campaign and the Russian government.

He also reached out to Admiral Mike Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, asking him to ‘deny the existence of any information linking his campaign to Russian interference in our election.

This information will be extremely important for special counsel Robert Mueller. He has powers beyond those of the Intelligence Committees in both houses.

With every passing day there are more similarities to Watergate and Richard Nixon. While Nixon was under investigation, he, too, took a trip to Saudi Arabia. He returned with the intention of convincing congress and the American people that he must remain in office to secure our relations internationally. Nixon also asked high-ranking government employees to destroy the tapes of his conversations with his staff. Both men suffered from paranoia and guilt.

Trump will be returning to an investigation which is accumulating a plethora of detailed information about Trump and his circle of sinners’ connections with Russia, Sergey Kislyak, and Vladimir Putin.

Flynn is attempting to take the fifth amendment. This action may also result in charges of obstruction of justice.

If I were Donny boy, I might choose not to come back to Washington. However, I do not possess the arrogance of Donald Trump who continues to believe that he is above that law, and that morals are a waste of time and energy.

Courage is defined as: “the ability to control fear and to be willing to deal with something that is dangerous, difficult, or unpleasant.” Trump cannot identify with this quality, but he is learning quickly that some men, even in Washington, have the courage to do the right thing.
