Some of you might remember the case of Desiree Fairooz. She is the 61-year-old woman who was tried and found guilty of ‘disorderly and disruptive conduct during a Senate hearing.’ The event occurred during confirmation hearings for Trump’s nominee, Jeff Sessions, as Attorney General. She was with a group calling themselves ‘Code Pink.’ Ms. Fairooz was protesting Sessions’ long record of racist words and actions. When fellow Alabaman, Senator Richard Shelby, testified and praised Sessions for his ‘fairness’ and years of ‘respected’ service, she could not hold back her laughter. She expected to be told by the chairman to ‘be quiet.’ Instead, she was immediately arrested for protesting within the Capitol.

She was convicted in May, but Superior Court Judge Robert E. Morin has ordered a new trial, calling Ms. Fairooz’ conviction “disconcerting.” She was facing one-year in jail.

“At the time of my arrest, we were seated, the hearing had begun, and Senator Richard Shelby [R-Alabama] was tasked with making compliments about Senator Sessions, and one of them seemed ridiculous to me and I involuntarily laughed,” Fairooz told RT in May.

Ms. Fairooz is a frequent protester on Capital Hill. Could this be the reason she was arrested, and not simply asked to leave? There is a great amount of prejudice against those who protest against the right wing. If they would not be so hypocritical and continue to deny the rights of the American people, such a large number of protests would not be necessary.

A personal note; who among you would not laugh at such blatant lies? I’m sure that if Sessions’ closet was searched, a white hooded robe would be discovered.
