More than two years ago America witnessed a new type of presidential candidate. In June of 2015 Donald J. Trump declared his intention to win the Republican Party’s nomination for the presidency. In just weeks we learned that racists and bigots finally had a voice on the national stage. As Trump’s campaign progressed, America learned that a white supremacist, a bigot, and a sexual predator actually had a chance to become the President of the United States. To this day, I and others cannot believe that such a horrible and destructive event really happened; that millions of Americans were that ignorant that they could not see the dangers ahead.

Today Trump attacked a new and specific group of Americans. Although we knew that Mike Pence was America’s number one anti-gay leader, we never heard that Trump suffered from severe homophobia until now.

“After consultation with my generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. military,” Trump tweeted shortly after 9 a.m.

While all other nations in the developed world have made enormous strides to remove prejudices from the countries, America is sliding backwards to the ‘bad old days.’ Led by a man without morals, compassion, or intelligent thought, our Constitution is in great peril.

Trump’s latest move, to ban transgendered men and women from serving their country is another egregious act, and a direct attack against an entire group of Americans.

I have no loyalty, and no respect for Trump; I have no reason to offer him recognition as my president. I find it more difficult each day to have hope that our nation will return to the Obama era where great efforts to protect human rights and equality for all Americans was the focus of those working in the White House. Trump and his circle of sinners are truly a ‘basket of deplorables.’ I am ashamed and embarrassed for my beloved country. Trump has isolated America from our allies and encourages our enemies to influence the actions of our government.

This is not my America; and this despicable man is not an American president.
