Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren spoke to an enthusiastic crowd in Atlanta Saturday. Her remarks were focused on the fact that the 2016 election proved that Democratic voters have moved back towards the left, and the party’s leadership must follow. The support for Bernie Sanders proved that being a centrist is no longer popular. I totally agree; it’s time to embrace the label of ‘liberal.’

Senator Warren told a crowd of progressive Democrats that they must fight for Medicare for all, debt-free college or technical school, universal pre-kindergarten, a $15-an-hour minimum wage and portable benefits. She said that since the election, the party has continued its leftward movement. “We don’t have to tip-toe anymore. We don’t have to hedge our bets,” Warren said.

While the Republican Party has moved to the extreme right, a backlash began across the nation. White nationalism and support for the wealthiest Americans dominates the GOP.

“We’re going to fight to put more women in positions of power,” she said at one point, “from committee rooms to boardrooms to that really nice oval-shaped room at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”

As the crowd began to chant “Warren in 2020,” the Senator smiled.

I don’t believe that she would ever want to be our nation’s president. She has been a leader in the Senate for years. If Democrats regain control of the Senate, she would be the best choice for Senate Majority Leader and continue to fight for progressive values.

Warren called for universal resolve and courage among Democrats and Independents.

“We’re not going back to the days of being lukewarm on choice,” she said. “We’re not going back to the days when universal health care was something Democrats talked about on the campaign trail but were too chicken to fight for after they got elected.”

Thanks to support from FOX Noise, and individuals such as Rush Limbaugh, the right wing has succeeded in making the term ‘liberal’ a less than virtuous adjective or noun. It’s time to let them know that we are proud to fight for all Americans, not just a few. Liberals stand for freedom, liberty, equality, and justice for all Americans regardless of race, creed, or the color of their skin.

Today the women in congress are leading while their male counterparts refuse to have the courage to stand up for the American people. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski have displayed great courage on the right. Senators Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, and Claire McCaskill continue to fight for the people from the left side of the aisle. It is they who will lead America out of the darkness created by Trump and his circle of sinners.
