Trump got something right, and it’s about time. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers owned slaves. This is one of the primary reasons why our nation has never been ‘great,’ and with the Republican Party of today, and Trump as their illegitimate president, it never will be. Comparing Washington and Jefferson to Robert E. Lee, and “Stonewall” Jackson simply proves that he doesn’t know anything about history and the facts about racism in America.
First of all, Washington and Jefferson helped create the United States of America; Lee and Jackson sought to destroy the Union. Secondly, clear thinking Americans came to the correct conclusion, slavery was immoral, was against god’s law and the Constitution.
Although I don’t understand why our nation has monuments to men who sought to end America, I do not have any personal feelings about them; but my ancestors were not brought to this country in chains and against their will. I fully comprehend why African Americans reject reminders of our nation’s most evil practice. All of the people of the world are equal, and must have the same rights and freedoms.
For Trump to admit that he is a member of a group who believes that whites are superior to all other races is very sad. I constantly claim that he is the worst president in history, and I am positive that I’m correct. But to have a man who believes in the evils of white supremacy defiling our White House is unacceptable.
Trump sees the monuments issue very differently; from a very old, white man’s point of view. He revealed his beliefs in a series of tweets; (of course).
“Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments. You…..
“…can’t change history, but you can learn from it. Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson – who’s next, Washington, Jefferson? So foolish! Also…
“…the beauty that is being taken out of our cities, towns and parks will be greatly missed and never able to be comparably replaced!”
Trump is making all of this up. He has proven by his own actions that he has no love for ‘art’ in any form. When he built Trump Tower the Metropolitan Art Museum begged him to save two huge pieces of artwork which were built into the historic Bonwit Teller building in 1929; he destroyed them.
Trump has ignored the fact that black men and women are treated differently in our nation. He cannot relate to any real American.
To anyone who still supports Trump: first of all, I don’t understand. Second of all you are the reason our nation will never become a great nation. Supporting a man who believes in the worst of America proves that you also believe that racism and bigotry have a place in America.
Please re-post; thank you.
