Jeff Flake: A New “Profile in Courage”

Flake

One thing both sides of the aisle have today in Washington is that few of them would be included in John F. Kennedy’s “Profiles in Courage.” Fear of losing an election prevents most from doing the right thing in support of the majority of the American people. Although both parties are guilty, Republicans have made the decision to be subservient to the worst president in history, with very few exceptions.

Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and John McCain have refused to acquiesce to Trump’s vile demands. Another Trump detractor is the the junior senator from Arizona, Jeff Flake.

In his recently published book, Senator Flake accuses Trump of “having a corrosive impact on the Republican Party.” Tomorrow Trump will be holding another of his hilarious ‘rallies’ in Phoenix, and there is little doubt that a portion of his comments will be a condemnation of Senator Flake. This is pure Trump; a man with such a fragile ego and weak temperament that he is unable to accept any criticism, and needs constant adulation from his deplorable supporters.

Asked if he is concerned about Trump’s support of his Republican challenger, he responded with intelligence and dignity, something Trump fails to understand.

“That’s not my realm. That’s somebody else’s. I just — I’m running my own campaign. It’s going well. And what the President does, that’s his prerogative,” Flake said.

An expected act by Trump is that he will pardon the racist former Sheriff of Maricopa County, Joe Arpaio. Flake once again refused to play Trump’s game of attack and parry. “That’s his choice to make,” Flake said.

Senator Flake is a throwback to the time when Republicans had principles, morals, and ideas which they would debate with their Democratic counterparts; when real Republicans rightfully laid claim to the label of ‘GOP politicians.’ He is a shining star in a party which has failed the American people for more than 20 years.

“With this vitriol that we have, with this inability to compromise, in my view, as a conservative, it is preventing us from achieving conservative ends. … It’s disheartening to be in that situation where you’re attacked because we need a bipartisan solution for something,” Flake said.

This requires an admonition to Trump and most of his failed party; Senator Flake’s response is a cure for our dysfunctional government; a return to a the policies of deliberation and compromise which once made our nation’s government effective. It’s time to reject the failed leadership of Mitch “do nothing” McConnell, and Lyin Paul Ryan.

Trump deserves to have 535 enemies in Washington. Every member of the House and Senate should reject his Anti-American policies.

Please re-post; thank you.
