Several red states have attempted to discourage or prevent minorities from exercising their right to vote. They passed a ‘voter ID law’ which was obviously intended to reduce the number of voters who traditionally support Democrats.

Texas was the first state to enact such a law. Yesterday a federal judge struck down the most recent revision of that law, which was supported by your white supremacist and illegitimate president. U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos stated that the law was identical to a “poll tax” used in the mid-twentieth century to prevent African Americans from voting.

This was a revision of the original law, and signed by Governor Greg Abbott. He was influenced by Trump, who continues to fallaciously claim that voter fraud is a problem in America, although he continues to deny the proven fact that Russia interfered in our election.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, believes that an appellate court will overturn the decision.

“The U.S. Department of Justice is satisfied that the amended voter ID law has no discriminatory purpose or effect. Safeguarding the integrity of elections in Texas is essential to preserving our democracy,” Paxton said in a statement.

Judge Ramos stated that the severity of the penalties involved would create a fear level which would result in fewer voters going to the polls.

The revised bill, known as ‘Senate Bill 5’ offered new regulations regarding forms of ID which would be acceptable. Judge Ramos rejected these requirements.

“This feature remains discriminatory because SB 5 perpetuates the selection of types of ID most likely to be possessed by Anglo voters and, disproportionately, not possessed by Hispanics and African-Americans,” she wrote.

The Republican Party is the party of racists and bigots, and has been proven by Trump’s recent remarks about the tragedy in Charlottesville.

It’s past time for all Americans to be honest and admit that racism not only exists, but is growing among the white population now that they have a leader defiling the White House sheets. Trump is not an American; he is a fascist who supports white supremacy, bigotry in all forms, and Islamophobia.
