When Trump nominated Jeff Sessions for Attorney General, I almost threw my computer in the trash. When Betsy DeVos’ name was offered as the Secretary of Education, I lost my lunch. Trump’s choice of Scott Pruitt to lead the Environmental Protection Agency gave me a migraine. Each time I read the name of a man or woman Trump selected to lead agencies they opposed, I became convinced that Trump’s agenda was to destroy our nation. However, Trump has hit his lowest point, so far, with his nominee for the top science position in the Department of Agriculture.
His name is Sam Clovis, and his only qualification for the position is that he was a Trump campaign aide. Clovis is anti-science, and a well-known bigot.
The word from Washington is that even Republicans in the Senate will have a difficult time confirming his nomination. Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Jeff Flake will surely renounce Trump’s nominee, and John McCain may join them. Let’s see how many other Republicans have the courage to do the right thing.
We already have a Secretary of the Treasury, Steve Mnuchin, who made his billions from the foreclosure of the homes of hard working men and women. Trump’s Secretary of Commerce is Wilbur Ross. He was once the chief executive of a bank controlled by Vladimir Putin. Rick Perry is the Secretary of Energy, and is unable to count the number of nuclear warheads our nation possesses. Tom Price introduced legislation in the House which would increase the price of his healthcare stocks; he is the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Ben Carson has the title of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. His background for the position is as a neurosurgeon. Rex Tillerson is the Secretary of State, and his experience was as the CEO of Exxon, and a close friend and business associate of Vladimir Putin. It goes on and on, and I won’t even mention Steve Bannon, Jared Kushner, or Ivanka Trump.
Trump is unfit, and chose those who work for him by the same standards.
America cannot afford another mistake. Clovis must not be confirmed.
