One thing all Republicans share is the fact that party comes first. They represent the majority; the working class; only when it fits into their plans to win reelection and of course support the one-percent. That’s why when Duncan Hunter, Republican Congressman from California, made this statement, I was not surprised.
“He’s just like he is on TV,” the congressman reportedly told colleagues on Friday. “He’s an asshole, but he’s our asshole.”
Republicans have only a single concern today; they control the executive and legislative branches of government, and they want to keep it that way.
I really don’t understand the revelry in controlling both houses of congress; their accomplishments are non-existent. The truth is that Republican politicians have failed to accomplish a single thing in eight years, seven months, and nine days.
Of course much of this is due to Mitch McConnell’s creation of the ‘party of no’ in January of 2009. He promised that his party would do nothing as long as a black man lived in the White House; he kept that promise.
The truth, my friends is simple. We must throw out the bums on the right and left, and replace them with legislators who will represent all 320 million Americans. All voters must renounce party affiliation, become independent, and vote for the best candidate. Voting for anyone for the single reason that they have an “R” or a “D” next to their name on the ballot is pure ignorance and unacceptable. This is the primary reason why our government is dysfunctional today.
I believe that Hunter’s remarks are symbolic of most Republicans in office today. But they’re not ‘stuck’ with him, and I believe that he will harm the chances of winning future elections for many of them.
In Nevada, Dean Heller is one of only eight Republican Senators up for reelection in 2018. In 2016, Nevada turned ‘blue.’ Our state not only voted for the first Hispanic female senator; a Democrat; our electoral votes went to Hillary and two bills were passed by the people which were opposed by our popular Republican governor, and other high level politicians including Heller. We voted in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana, and approved background checks for all gun sales including on the internet and at gun shows. Heller has a choice; support his immoral president or serve the people of our state.
We, the people have the ultimate power; and we must use it during every election, and use it wisely.
