The aftermath of Hurricane Harvey will devastate many on the Texas coast. Hardest hit has been Houston where thousands of residents will lose their homes and businesses. Trump made a speech in Texas on Tuesday promising quick relief and ‘historical, and dramatic action.’ Sorry my brothers and sisters in the Lone Star state, I am positive that you will be deserted just like the rest of America. Following is a part of Trump’s budget cuts to go into effect after congress approves Trump’s demands.
“$667 million cuts from FEMA targeting grants that help state and local governments prepare for natural disasters and other emergencies like terrorist attacks. The budget would also require 25% cost matching for preparedness grants. Modeled on FEMA’s existing disaster recovery grants, the provision is designed to ensure state and local governments pick up part of the tab when the federal government doles out money.”
Good luck Texas.
Congress has the ability to offer disaster relief for the residents of Houston and other cities, but will they bow to Trump’s demands and limit this assistance?
Trump has also proposed cutbacks in funding which would rebuild residential areas and small businesses.
I once heard a politician say that “if you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.” Trump’s speech in Texas today was filled with false promises. This event was merely another distraction intended to remove attention from his complicit relations with Vladimir Putin during the 2016 election. Trump will continue to do nothing for the American people, and those who supported him, including the residents of Texas, will suffer the most.
