Why Dean Heller Must Lose his Seat in the Senate

Heller and McCaskill

Dean Heller is the senior senator from my state of Nevada. My wife has a large folder filled with responses from him after she phoned his office to ask him to support the working class. Most recently she informed him that if he voted in favor of Trump’s tax bill, he would lose her vote. He is one of eight Republican senators up for reelection in November of 2018.

After the bill passed early last Saturday morning with 51 Republican votes, and zero Democrats, Heller was asked if he read the bill before he voted on it, because virtually no one else had.

I was asked earlier today if I read the tax bill…Read it? I helped write it!” he tweeted hours after the measure passed — a message now pinned to the top of his campaign Twitter page.

Heller claimed the following in an op-ed for the Reno Gazette Journal.

He argued it would “boost middle-class income by nearly $2,500 and add more than 8,300 jobs in Nevada.”

The CBO and tax experts disagree. The middle class will pay more in taxes. The wealthy will receive tax cuts. This is another effort to create ‘trickle-down economics,’ which has never been successful. 13 million low-income Americans will lose their healthcare. The deficit will be increased by $1.5 trillion. Large corporations will pay less tax, but small businesses will suffer and be forced to reduce their workforce.

So, in other words; Heller lied.

Jacky Rosen will be Heller’s Democratic opponent next November. The polls show that they are in a ‘dead heat.’ She had the following to say about Heller’s “achievement.”

Instead of delivering on his promise of tax relief for the middle class, Senator Heller betrayed his constituents again by voting to increase taxes and health care costs for working families, increase the national debt by $1 trillion, and give billionaires a massive tax cut,” Rosen said in a statement after the Senate vote.

On November 8, 2016, my state turned blue. Our Electoral Votes went to Hillary, as she easily won the popular vote. We elected the first female Latina to the senate; Catherine Cortez-Masto is a Democrat. We passed two issues opposed by our Republican governor, Heller, and other right wing members. The use of recreational marijuana was approved, and a measure was passed which requires background checks for all gun purchases, including from gun shows and online sales.

I live in Northern Nevada, which is primarily a Republican stronghold. However, Southern Nevada has a much larger population, and has become much more Democratic.

Heller also supported Trumpcare. During the process large protests occurred throughout the state. He is in trouble, and deserves to be.

The truth is that not a single Republican deserves the vote of a working man or woman. They are the party of the one-percent, and have no interest in the needs or wishes of the majority.

Please re-post; thank you.
