As he slurred his words, Trump announced that the United States would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel yesterday. This ill-advised and ignorant announcement was guaranteed to anger the majority of the world’s people.

As Trump made a completely fallacious claim that it would aid in efforts to establish peace in the region, protests began by the Palestinians. Today it has escalated into violence.

Trump doesn’t get it; he is not a religious man and knows nothing about the importance of every individual’s choice to practice their own faith. Jerusalem has deep meaning for three individual religions; Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Yesterday Trump told the world that this city belongs to Jews exclusively. Trump has made many poor decisions, but this one has become his new low.

Israel was recognized as a sovereign state in 1948; Palestinians are still waiting. The area itself has been in contention for 69 years, and Jerusalem is at the center of the dispute. Trump never should have taken the side of Israel; this rash and irresponsible act has increased the level of danger the people of Israel must endure.

Trump has angered the Muslim world. He has given ISIS another recruitment tool. All the work accomplished by Muslim leaders to discourage young men to join the terrorist group has been severely damaged by the arrogance and ignorance of the worst president in American history. The sad truth is that this was done to appease his deplorable supporters, Mike Pence, and casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.

Trump is truly a stupid, stupid man.
