Did Alabama Prove that some Christian Groups are “Fake Religions,” or is Christianity Simply in Decline?

Evangelicals (2)

Without exception, evangelicals voted for Roy More last Tuesday as Alabama elected a new senator. They voted knowing that he was removed from the state’s Supreme Court twice for breaking the law; a similar law which Jesus Christ ordered His followers to obey in the bible. They knew that he is a racist and a homophobe who rejects the directions of Jesus who said “only God the Father can judge others.” He has been accused of stealing money from his own charity. Nine women claim that he sexually violated them when they were teenagers.

I don’t know, and I don’t want to know which religion you belong to, but I was raised a Catholic, and Moore cannot be called a Christian; he is nothing more than an enormous bigot. He is a sanctimonious, dirty old man who, by his own words and actions proved that he does not belong in the United States Senate.

What does the fact that white Evangelical leaders and their followers voted for Moore? Can we claim that we have proof that these Evangelicals are not Christians, or that some factions in Christianity are ‘fake?’

More likely it is the fact that all televangelists and many ministers and priests use religion to advance their personal goals. If you have read the new testament of the bible, you are aware that Jesus Christ denounced extreme wealth and offered His support to the poor and needy. Many religious leaders have become millionaires thanks to the generosity of their flock.

I ceased belonging to any organized religion 50 years ago. None of my questions could be answered, and I witnessed far too many events when the words of Jesus were ignored by church leaders. At the same time I was being taught in school that God had given us free will, and a conscience, fear tactics were used to keep us in the control of the Church. I can still remember being 13 years old and peeing my pants because I had to tell the priest in the confessional that I had looked at a picture of a naked woman.

Alabama should be proud of themselves for doing the right thing last Tuesday. They elected a good man who will represent all of the people of their state. Most importantly, we must recognize black men and women who went to the polls in large numbers; especially black women. By the way, have you ever known a black woman who did not go to church? None of them are ‘white’ evangelicals.

Please re-post; thank you.
