Imagine how respected our nation would be if we had not invaded Iraq under false pretenses. How different would America be if Obamacare had been improved and not fallaciously attacked constantly? If the great recession of 2008 had not happened, our nation could have worked on the important issues facing the American people, including poverty, income inequality, true immigration reform, higher education for all, and complete equality for women. Bill Clinton left our nation with a surplus; how much better would our economy be today if most of the budget was not wasted on two unwinnable wars and allowing the banking industry uncontrolled and illegal practices. Finally, what would our nation be like today if 9/11 had never happened because our president and vice-president heeded the warnings of the NSA, CIA, DIA, and the FBI?
One simple and fair change to our system of presidential elections would have prevented all of the destructive events and actions which occurred since the 2000 election.
In the 2000 election George W. Bush won the Electoral College thanks to the Supreme Court awarding Florida to him and denying Al Gore’s request for a full recount. Al Gore won the popular vote.
In 2016, a total of 77,000 votes from three states gave Trump a win in the Electoral College. Hillary crushed him in the popular vote by nearly three million ballots.
So let’s take a look at how different America would be if the Electoral College did not exist; if the American people elected the President of the United States, and not a small group of men and women who deny the rights of the people to have fair and democratic elections.
Bill Clinton won the presidency in 1992. Without the Electoral College, Al Gore would have won the election in 2000. Hillary Clinton received the mandate of the people in 2016; soundly defeating Trump. America would have had a Democrat living in the White House for the last 25 years. Donald Trump would not be soiling the sheets with his obese body.
America and the world would be a safer place. ISIS would never have become a reality. Al Qaeda would not have grown in power. The nations of the would have joined to prevent terrorism after discovering the plans to attack our nation on September 11, 2001.
Instead, our nation is more divided than at any other time since the Civil War. Are economy is in recovery, but nowhere near where it would have been if the great recession had not happened. We have a madman who is mentally challenged ruling over our nation, and our government is ignoring the majority. The world is a more dangerous place than at any other time since the “13 days in October” of 1962.
I can dream; it is New Years Eve. Rid America of the Electoral College and make America a respected country again.
Please re-post; thank you.
