Nominating Betsy DeVos for Secretary of Education was not just another huge mistake by Donald Trump, it has become a disaster for our nation’s failing educational system. DeVos not only intends to destroy our public education system, she has removed rules which discouraged sexual assault on our nation’s campuses.

It is inconceivable that any man or woman would remove requirements which were intended to ensure that the administration of colleges and universities report and investigate allegations of sexual assault in a timely and comprehensive manner. DeVos has done just that.

Eliminating sections of Title IX has allowed our colleges and universities to act in a disinterested manner, and in some cases ignore charges of rape. This unforgivable reality has forced multiple organizations to file lawsuits against DeVos and the Department of Education.

For those of you who don’t know, DeVos received her nomination because she and her husband have donated tens of millions of dollars to Republican candidates. She and her children are products of private schools, and she is a champion and major donor for charter schools. DeVos supports a voucher program which would force our nation’s inner city children to attend private schools outside of the areas in which they live.

In states which have adopted similar plans, complaints are numerous about the quality of education and forced religious indoctrination.

DeVos is a perfect example of the poor choices Trump made for his closest advisers. Sadly the Republican Senate rubber stamped Trump’s nominations, and the result is the most corrupt and unqualified government in our nation’s history.

Just another reason to dump Trump.
