Trey Gowdy not Running for Reelection is a Gift to America

Gowdy

If you don’t know who Trey Gowdy is, I’m not surprised. Only political junkies such as myself know him all too well. Gowdy is completing his fourth term as a member of the House from South Carolina. He has announced that he will not be running for reelection in November. As of today, that makes 33 Republican Representatives who will no longer be in Washington in 2019.

Gowdy’s time in office has been spent supporting his party’s platform; he has zero accomplishments on record. He has been a toady for Trump and will not be missed.

Gowdy will be remembered primarily for wasting his time and taxpayer money investigating the tragedy in Benghazi eight times. Nothing criminal was ever proven.

His desperate efforts to harm Hillary Clinton should have been embarrassing, but Gowdy has no shame.

These are the reasons he offered for his decision.

“Whatever skills I may have are better utilized in a courtroom than in Congress, and I enjoy our justice system more than our political system,” the South Carolina Republican said. “As I look back on my career, it is the jobs that both seek and reward fairness that are most rewarding.”

First of all, because I follow the events in Washington closely, I don’t understand why any intelligent and sane man or woman would want to be a member of the House or Senate today. Our government is the worst. It lost its claim to democracy during the last year when everything was handled in a partisan only manner.

Those who choose to run are hopefully much younger men and women who have a single goal; serving all of our nation’s people by supporting their needs and wishes. Old, white men have ruined our nation; time for them to go.

Finally, I believe that I understand the real reasons why Gowdy is not running again. First of all, he pandered to his party leaders constantly, and I am certain he had ambitions for positions which he did not receive in turn. Secondly, he is one of many Republicans who will face a serious challenge in November. American women are working very hard to register voters and get them to the polls. A large turnout will guarantee a ‘blue wave’ on November 6th.
