Trump is jealous that his close friend and mentor gets a big parade every year on May 1st. He believes that he should be allowed to have the military parade its weapons down Pennsylvania Avenue to boost his fragile ego. If Vladimir Putin gets to praise himself as the leader of the world’s second largest military, Trump doesn’t understand why he is unable to show off the fact that his military is five times larger than all others combined.
So, what do former members of our armed forces think about this costly and unnecessary idea?
Former General Paul Eaton, who trained the Iraqi army as our military was going home, wrote a damning letter in which he labeled Trump a “wannabee banana republic strongman.”
Retired Admiral James Stavridis released a public letter saying “the troops don’t need a ‘puffy parade,’ they need real-life support like higher wages, better veteran care, and the weekend off to rest, not wasting their time in the summer heat inflating Trump’s ego.”
The former Navy Seal who is credited with shooting Osama bin Laden, Robert J. O’Neill tweeted: “A military parade is third world bullshit. We prepare. We deter. We fight. Stop this conversation.”
There was also a message from the Washington D.C. City Council expressing their concern about the certain damage to the city’s streets. They said “tanks, but no tanks.”
Mayor Muriel E. Bowser expressed similar concerns.
Let me ask the most important question of all; why? Why in the hell do we need a parade? The only military parades our nation has accepted were afte the end of a major war. If Republicans allow this costly and foolish charade, they should be run out of Washington. But Republicans have no shame; they have a single god and a single goal; money. So far they attempted to pass a healthcare bill which would have given Trump more tax breaks, and harmed the nation’s economy. They passed tax reform bill which will add $1.8 trillion to the deficit, and is a gift to Trump and other wealthy Americans. They have allowed Trump to waste more than $150 million taxpayer dollars for his personal lifestyle in his first year. All of the Obama’s vacations and travel cost taxpayers $98 million in eight years. They will approve Trump’s unnecessary wall, and now he wants a multi-million dollar parade. What the f**k is going on?
