Move Over Schumer and Pelosi; It’s Time for the Democratic Party to Get Tough

Schumer and Pelosi (2)

Two government shutdowns in two weeks, and Democrats have nothing to show for it on their side. I constantly make the claim that the Republican Party exists in name only because of the weak leadership of Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan. That is a fact. However, Democrats are no better.

Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi have moved to the right of center in their politics, and this is not good. They attempt to appease everyone but the voters. Democratic politicians have lost their fighting spirit. They should be proud of their party’s liberal history and what has been accomplished for the majority.

We need dozens of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelts who believe that the people are worth fighting for, and that submission is not an option.

As an Independent, I have voted more times for Democrats than Republicans. However, in the last 25 years I have found it impossible to vote for Republicans who no longer represent anyone in America other than special interests. However, I frequently find it just as difficult to vote for Democrats.

Fortunately for my wife and myself, we live in Nevada. In the last election our Electoral College votes went to Hillary Clinton. We had an outstanding Democrat running for the Senate. Catherine Cortez Masto is the first Hispanic woman to ever be elected to the senior chamber in the capitol. We also passed a law requiring comprehensive background checks for all gun purchases, and approved the use of recreational marijuana.

This year we will fight hard to defeat Dean Heller. He has been Trump’s ‘yes man’ since the election, and has failed the hard-working people of our state. Our state deserves two senators who are Democrats who will work for the people.

I call on Chuck and Nancy to move over and give control of the people’s party to aggressive and left leaning men and women who are not afraid to say “hell no” to the bully in the White House.

McConnell and Ryan are weaklings who have proven that they cannot govern. Democrats must make them stand in a corner, and retake the leadership role in Washington. The people deserve more; special interests have plenty already. Trump must be stopped from giving himself and the one-percent even more.
