Weeks before the 2016 election, President Obama called congressional leaders from both parties to the Oval Office. The heads of our security agencies informed them that Russia was attempting to interfere in our election. Their goal was to aid Trump and harm Hillary.
Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan panicked. If this news was released to the voting public, the election could be over before the polls opened on November 8th. McConnell spoke up and threatened his president. If this information was revealed, he would hold a news conference and tell the American people that Mr. Obama was attempting to sway the election.
Then, 11 days before the election, Republican James Comey announced that he was reopening the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server. Republicans play dirty, and by taking the high road, Democrats and the President likely cost Hillary the election. This incident, combined with Russia’s use of social media, resulted in a voter turnout which was less than expected. Trump was gifted the Electoral College when he won Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin by a total of 77,000 votes.
Today Robert Mueller’s Grand Jury indicted 13 Russian individuals and three companies for their intrusion into the 2016 election. The question now is ‘how much did McConnell and Ryan know, and how long had they known about the efforts of the Russian agents? Did they collude with Trump, his campaign staff, his family, and the Russians?’
Ryan’s a bad actor. Today he told the media that he was extremely shocked by the “extent of the subterfuge” Really! We know he knew sometime in October of 2016. He was given all of the information our security agencies had discovered.
Republicans have proven for more than 20 years that they will do anything to win an election. Lies are standard operating procedure for GOP politicians. Nothing matters to McConnell, Ryan, and their despicable party other than elections, and supporting big business, and the Christian religious right.
McConnell and Ryan can pretend that this is ‘news to them,’ but we have known better for at least one year.
I call ‘bulls**t.’
