Donald Trump says that he supports a bill in the senate which would require more comprehensive background checks for gun purchases. A similar bill has already passed in the House. Of course he’s lying, he would never defy the NRA. Regardless, this is another failure by the Republican Party.
In October 2017 a lone gunman slaughtered 58 men and women attending a concert in Las Vegas. In November 2017 another shooter killed 26 men, women, and children attending church services in a small Texas town. Five days ago, on Valentine’s Day, a 19-year-old boy murdered 17 former classmates and teachers in Florida. All three shared one thing; they all legally purchased military type assault rifles to commit their heinous crimes.
The media has accepted one fact as normal in their continued support of the Republican Party and the NRA; in the last three years there have been more mass shootings than days on the calendar. Unless the numbers are very large, these shootings are not reported on the “news” broadcasts. Another frightening fact; the assault rifles sold at gun stores today are much more powerful and shoot more rounds per minute than the weapons our soldiers used in Vietnam.
Until Republicans become serious about banning these killing machines, I don’t want to hear any more platitudes from these failed politicians. I promise you that voters will display their demands on November 6th at the polls. Republicans will not receive the votes of those they choose to ignore.
Today’s Republicans in name only have not represented the majority for 25 years. They’re not getting the message, so lets make our voices be heard in the midterm election. Return the power in Washington to Democrats and give Trump an aneurysm.
