In every situation there are winners and losers. Trump told supporters at one of his embarrassing rallies that “they would get tired of winning.” My question is, ‘when will this winning begin?”
Let’s begin with his approval ratings. A week ago Trump’s approval rating rose to 40 percent; it’s back in the mid-thirties today. Trump has made history by recording the lowest ratings in history for his first year in office. His ratings would not be that high if his strongest supporters were not included. Trump is the most hated man in the world.
Now let’s look at his accomplishments, or more importantly, his lack of accomplishments.
His first effort was to create a Muslim ban. Every federal court in the land has voided his executive orders. This was his first blatant attempt to violate the Constitution. It took him less than one month in office to prove that he would be the worst president in history, and that he was indeed a white supremacist, and a xenophobe. By the way, Saudi Arabia was not included in any of the nations he included in his ban. Trump is attempted to build a hotel in the country. The fact is that 15 of the 19 terrorists who participated in the 9/11 attacks were Saudi nationals.
Next came his attempt to repeal Obamacare. Notice that I did not say ‘repeal and replace.’ The horrific Republican effort to create Trumpcare was a facade. It would have removed healthcare from tens-of-millions of Americans; virtually ending any hope of universal healthcare. When it failed, most Americans celebrated. The only group in the right wing who celebrated were Republicans in the House who passed their version; it was a pitiful event. Later the Senate voted against Trumpcare. Is this ‘winning?’
Trump claims that he won when his tax reform bill was passed on a purely partisan basis. Here’s the truth. This bill is a gift to the wealthy and large corporations. For the next year and one-half everyone gets a tax break. Then they end for the middle class. They will be paying for the permanent tax breaks given to the wealthy. With less revenue, taxes for the middle class will rise dramatically.
Jobs will not be created; the wealthy will continue to hoard their profits. All forms of ‘trickle-down economics’ have failed badly. What will happen is that the deficit will be increased by an estimated $1.8 trillion. I don’t think that you are winning yet.
During Trump’s first 13 months in office, three of the largest mass shootings in America have occurred. With hate crimes increasing by 800 percent since his nomination, this should be no surprise. This is part of the ‘Trump effect.’ This is not winning.
So what will he do to stop violence in our schools, and to alter the fact that we have more mass shootings than days on the calendar? One thing; arm teachers, and make them targets for killers with military weapons and bulletproof vests.
Are you still winning?
I will tell you who is winning. Women and younger Americans are leading a new revolution. They are refusing to serve Trump and his hypocritical party. Women’s rights, women’s equality, and gun laws which would make our entire nation safer, are issues which will be at the forefront of the reasons why and for whom we cast our ballots in the upcoming November election.
Giving control of the House and Senate back to Democrats will end Trump’s reign of terror.
A special note to my fellow Nevadans; please vote and ensure that Dean Heller loses this election. He is a Trump toady and a traitor to the people of our great state. Heller has voted against every issue supported by most Nevadans and does not deserve his life of luxury and privilege. Thank you.
