Many companies have ended their policy of offering discounts to members of the NRA. They are rejecting the gun lobby’s control of the right wing. The NRA has approximately five million members, which is only slightly over one-and-one-half percent of our nation’s population. A law to ban the sale of all assault rifles is favored by 67 percent of our nation’s people.
Delta Airlines is one of the companies who will no longer offer discounts to NRA members. The airline’s largest hub is in Atlanta, Georgia. Casey Cagle is Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor. He has been bought and paid for many times by the NRA. Although Delta is critical to Georgia’s economy, he is threatening to eliminate tax breaks for the airline if it continues to refuse paying homage to the NRA and its members.
“Corporations cannot attack conservatives and expect us not to fight back,” Cagle, a leading Republican candidate to replace Gov. Nathan Deal, wrote on Monday.
This moron is admitting that the NRA and conservatives are one and the same, and neither supports the majority of the American people. Not a single Republican has the courage to admit that the NRA doesn’t give a damn about the safety of the American people. They have one purpose and one goal; increase the profits of gun manufacturers and gun sellers.
Let’s do something that all conservatives hate; let’s tell the truth.
On Valentine’s Day things would have been very different if the killer had not been armed with an assault rifle and high output magazines. If he had a hunting rifle or a handgun, someone, most likely a teacher, or possibly the sheriff who was armed and remained outside of the school, would have taken him down. The truth is that he would have killed one or more of the students, but the number would have not have been 17.
When a single gunman began shooting men and women at a music festival in Las Vegas last October, there is no possible way that he would have slaughtered 58 innocent people without the use of a military killing machine.
The gunman who walked into a church in a small Texas town last November would not have murdered 26 men, women, and children if he had not used an assault rifle.
These lethal weapons were created for a single reason; to kill as many other human beings as possible in a very short period of time. They would not be effective if they were used for hunting, or even self defense. High powered rifles are designed to kill prey from a distance. Shotguns are the most effective weapon for self defense.
Republicans such as Cagle, and the CEO of the NRA, Wayne LaPierre are simply lying. No one wants to take all guns away from those who love their lethal toys. Assault rifles are another story.
On March 24th the high school students from Marjory Stoneham Douglas High School have organized a march in Washington D.C. Joining them will be celebrities who want to show their support. They will likely include Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Jimmy Fallon, and others.
We cannot allow the NRA and their puppets, the Republican Party, to win this one. We cannot accept another situation where our school children are killed in what should be a safe place.
If you can’t be there on March 24th, join them in spirit.
