Trump and his Republican Failures Are not Attacking the Opioid Crisis: The People Are Refusing to Wait

Another broken promise from Donny Boy. During his campaign he promised to end the opioid crisis in America. He has been in office for 14 months and has done absolutely nothing. A real president would have gathered a team of experts on addiction, treatment, and replacement therapy to create a strategy and end an extremely deadly problem which cost the lives of 58,000 Americans last year.

Trump’s solution; give the epidemic to Kellyanne Conway. She will fix it by lying to it and about it.

Meanwhile lawsuits against the pharmaceutical companies are springing up across America. One specific case has been filed in a small town in Louisiana. Lawyers are using laws written by Napoleon to charge drug companies and their distributors with willful negligence.

The suit was filed on behalf of Tyler M. Roach. Four years ago Roach and his wife were injured when a car rear-ended their own. Mrs. Roach was prescribed opioid based pain killers. She became addicted to them and when their child was born, she was diagnosed with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, or NAS. She spent several days in excruciating pain in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and will continue to suffer developmental issues throughout her life.

Babies exposed to opioids in vitro can develop an addiction to the drug, according to National Institutes of Health research. A diagnosis after birth of NAS often includes immediate withdrawal symptoms ― such as excessive crying, heavy sweating, diarrhea, tremors, convulsions, seizures, vomiting, difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite and pain as soon as 24 hours to 10 days after birth,” according medical experts. In addition other side effects could develop, including Attention Deficit Disorder, cognitive deficits, growth delays, depression, behavioral problems, life-long infertility and an inability to function independently.

If Roach wins his lawsuit a chain reaction would ensue. The pharmaceutical companies could be forced to pay hundreds of billions of dollars in damages.

The drug industry believes that the lawsuit will be dismissed.

The misuse and abuse of prescription opioids is a complex public health challenge that requires a collaborative and systemic response that engages all stakeholders,” said John Parker, a spokesman for Healthcare Distribution Alliance, a national trade association representing wholesale distributors including McKesson, Cardinal Health and AmerisourceBergen. “Given our role, the idea that distributors are responsible for the number of opioid prescriptions written defies common sense and lacks understanding of how the pharmaceutical supply chain actually works and is regulated.”

Here’s the truth they will not tell you and will not be reported by the media.

The pharmaceutical companies and the FDA were aware of the possibility that these powerful drugs could become addictive. The profits were huge, and they hid the truth from doctors and consumers. This is ‘standard operating procedure’ for the industry. They are eventually sued and pay hundreds of millions in damages after their profits are in the billions.

Time to protect the American people. Trump must stay away from his golf courses and do something once in his life.
