Trump’s latest moronic idea; send the National Guard to patrol our southern border, and only our southern border. The spoiled child in the Oval Office cannot get the money he wants for his useless wall, so he is attempting to appease his angry supporters in a move that is dangerous and supercilious; but Trump never listens to anyone else anyway.
No details have been released including how many of our soldiers would be sent; when; if they will be armed; or what functions they will actually perform without proper training.
This would be costly and is not being received well by our military leaders.
“There is a significant opportunity cost,” said James G. Stavridis, a retired four-star admiral who commanded United States forces in Europe and Latin America and is now dean of The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, adding that troops sent to the border with Mexico — ostensibly an American ally — would “miss important training opportunities for their real primary mission — combat.”
Trump is a failure, and this would be another serious mistake.
“At the Pentagon, several officials privately expressed concern about being seen as picking a fight with an ally at a time when the military has plenty of adversaries — the Islamic State, North Korea, Russia, Syria — to contend with. Massing American troops at another country’s border, several current and former Defense Department officials said, would send a message of hostility and raise the chances of provoking an all-out conflict.”
The truth is that the number of illegal immigrants entering our nation is at their lowest since 1971. If Trump really wants to do something to better the lives of American and protect their very existence, send the National Guard to Puerto Rico. FEMA is failing badly and tens of thousands of American citizens remain without electricity, and safe water. It has been over six months since Hurricane Maria devastated the island, and it remains a disaster area.
Oh; wait; I forgot; the people of Puerto Rico are Hispanic. Trump would rather build a wall around the island than aid the people. It appears that throwing paper towels at the survivors was ineffective.
