Congress is on another of its many vacations. The organizers of the March 24th “March For Our Lives” organized 130 town hall meetings during their break and invited lawmakers to attend the discussion regarding our gun laws. Not a single Republican attended.
Do we need any additional proof that Republicans do not care about the American people? Is this the final failure by GOP politicians which tells you once and for all that your safety is less important than the money they receive from the NRA gun lobby?
For decades Republicans have refused to support the wishes of the American people. I, and every other writer in America believed that after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut where 20 small children and six educators were slaughtered by a deranged man with a military assault rifle, congress would take action and do the right thing. Then we remembered that Republicans have been bought and paid for by the NRA. It was no surprise when nothing happened.
My admiration for the surviving students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, is immeasurable. Their courage, passion, and intellect have renewed hope for most Americans. By their actions and words they have proven that they care about America and the American people. They have embarrassed every Republican in Washington by proving that they are far wiser, and are willing to do the right thing while facing unfair and fallacious attacks from right wing extremists.
These young men and women are our next group of voters, and have begun leading our nation out of the dark ages of Republican domination and failures.
If you previously believed that your vote would not be important in November, consider casting your ballot for those who cannot. Most of the Parkland survivors will not be 18 before the election. Show your support for your country and these young future leaders of America. Their cause is just, and the defeat of the NRA can now be seen on the horizon.
November 6th is coming soon. Just say ‘no’ to Republicans.
