Republican politicians are not the ‘sharpest tools in the shed.’ Supporting Donald Trump’s fascist ideas and his destructive agenda proves two things; their primary concern is their party and they don’t know what they’re doing. In the last 15 months and eight days they have proven that they have no ideas or talent for governing our nation.
The GOP is dominated by slow learners, but they’re beginning to realize a very upsetting fact; Trump is not genuinely concerned about helping Republicans win elections, and the midterm is just six months away.
These are the valid concerns expressed by an anonymous Republican who has been witnessing what is being labeled as a ‘blue wave.’
“President Trump is privately rejecting the growing consensus among Republican leaders that they may lose the House and possibly the Senate in November, leaving party officials and the president’s advisers nervous that he does not grasp the gravity of the threat they face in the midterm elections.”
This individual is expressing two situations which are a reality, and are likely to result in defeat for Republicans in November, and for Trump’s agenda; if he has one.
There are two very legitimate concerns for every Republican member of the House, and all eight Republican senators who are facing reelection. Democrats have either won special elections, or in the ‘reddest’ areas their losses were at a much smaller margin than when Trump won the Electoral College in 2016.
The biggest fear Republicans possess is the reality that a historical percentage of voters could crowd the polling booths on November 6th. Although Democrats and Independents are notoriously lethargic when the fate of a president is not involved in an election, this year could be a first for America.
Beginning on January 21, 2017, women began organizing voter registration to defeat Donald Trump and his immoral and racist agenda. Tom Steyer, a billionaire who is devoting all of his time to removing Trump from office, is spending millions to encourage millennials to vote this year. After the slaughter of 17 students and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the next generation of voters became our nations leading activists. They will encourage voters to take action. A number of seniors will be able to vote this year, but nearly all of them will be at the polls in November of 2020.
Republicans should be concerned. As of today 43 Republican members of the House have chosen not to run for reelection.
Democrats need to gain 24 seats in the House to retake control. The senate is divided with 51 seats occupied by Republicans, and 47 by Democrats. Two seats belong to independents Bernie Sanders and Angus King. They most often take the position of Democrats on important issues.
Most “experts” are doubtful that Democrats can regain control of the senate; they are very wrong. I live in Nevada, and Republican Dean Heller is very vulnerable. He has proven himself to be a Trump toady. Nevada is a great and beautiful state, but it is actually two states in a single geographical area. The north, where I live, has a much smaller population than the south. Our people are far more aligned with the right wing. Our state’s two largest cities are Las Vegas, and Henderson; both in the southern part of Nevada. In 2016 they turned ‘blue.’ Not only did our Electoral votes go to Hillary Clinton, we elected the first Democratic and Hispanic woman as our state’s junior senator. Catherine Cortez Masto made history. In addition, we passed two state measures opposed by our Republican Governor, and Dean Heller. Our state now requires background checks for all gun purchases including at gun shows and online; although our state’s Attorney General, and candidate for governor, Adam Laxalt, has refused to enforce this law. He is a tool of the NRA gun lobby.
Recreational marijuana is now a reality, and our state has received millions of dollars in revenue from this decision by informed voters.
If; or should I say ‘when;’ Heller loses, the senate could be split 50-50. One more win for Democrats and they would control the senate.
Jeff Flake, Republican senator from Arizona, and Bob Corker, Republican from Tennessee, have chosen not to seek reelection. Could one of these very red states elect a Democrat? It happened in Alabama!
This midterm election is far more important than any general election in history. Our country will either embrace democracy and the freedoms promised by the Constitution, or surrender to the fascist agenda of Trump; aided by Robert Mercer and Vladimir Putin.
The bottom line is that Republicans have a right to be concerned. Most informed Americans, including myself, believe that Paul Ryan’s announcement to retire is the result of his awareness that he might not only lose his reelection bid in Wisconsin, but most certainly his position as Speaker of the House. He is attempting to save his extremely damaged reputation. He is America’s biggest hypocrite, and a traitor to the American people.
A final plea; please vote in November. We can be an important part of history and save the nation of our founding fathers for our children and grandchildren.
